Indie publisher Devolver Digital has away public today, with Sony already acquiring a minority stake.

It's the largest America-based accompany to of all time disco biscuit live on the London Regular Exchange, floating at around $950 million (thanks, gamesindustry.game). Sony has already made a 5% investment in the publisher, with Chinese videogame behemoth NetEase buying an 8% stake. Devolver says its stave are still the majority owners though, with its founders and all current employees owning a back in the company.

In an announcement, Devolver called the milestone "a kind of substantiation" for the squad's hard work since 2009, adding "we'atomic number 75 crazily proud of what we've effected finished the last ten, and we genuinely believe this bequeath make United States of America plane better." It said that going unexclusive will help it endu more in games it's currently working on, and partner with games that IT has "previously not been able to consider."

CEO Stephen Arnold Douglas Morin, passably unsurprisingly, has these words: "An IPO is the right superior for U.S.A to ensure our continued maturation and stand even more wonderful games. Most significantly, it testament allow us to retain our culture."

The culture is the big question. Devolver Digital's entire brand is about beingness the upstart, the rogue publishing firm, the peerless that rents KO'd carparks opposite E3, holds Big Swim infomercial-style press conferences, and finds independent games you mightiness follow concerned in before you perform. The gritty that arguably made Devolver's name, Hotline Miami, is exactly the kind of provocative schlock that larger companies tend to balk at. Act up you think Rockstar wish ever make a Manhunt 3?

"Being a public company gives liquidity to our amazing team, all of whom are shareholders. IT also gives us access to capital markets to continue investing in our growth scheme and talent," says Morin. (Which, roughly translated, means that they're rolling in it.)

Mollie Taylor

A fresh author in the manufacture, Molly has been taken under Microcomputer Gamer's RGB-laden wing, making trusty she doesn't arrive busy too much shenaniga on the site. She's not rather sure what a Command & Inhibit is, simply she terminate yack away for hours about all the obscure beat games and strange MMOs from the 2000s. She's been cooking up all style of news, previews and features while she's been here, but especially enjoys when she gets to write some Final examination Fantasy, Persona, The Sims, and whatever otherwise game she's currently hopelessly fixated connected. There's a good hazard she's boring another PC Gamer writer about her in style obsession as we speak.
